Committees and Memberships
I served on the Executive Board of the International Committee of Museums of Arms and Military History (ICOMAM) from 1999 to 2005. This is the Committee of the International Council of Museums (ICOM) that guides and encourages developments in military museums worldwide. I remain a personal member of ICOMAM and attend its annual symposia and triennial congresses, frequently contributing papers to its scholarly sessions.
I serve on the Museum Committee of The Royal Scots Dragoon Guards
(Carabiniers and Greys) as the regiment's curatorial advisor. I
served on the Council of Britain's Society for Army Historical Research
from 1998 to 2006 and, from 2003 to 2006, was Chairman of the sub-committee
of that Council that awards the Society's annual ‘Templer
Prize’ for the best book on the history of the British Army.
I serve periodically as an independent assessor in advising
the British governments Reviewing Committee on the Export of Works of
Art.
I am a member of the Society of Genealogists, of the
Association of Genealogists and Researchers in Archives (AGRA) and of the
Institute of Historical Research at the University of London.
I am a member of the Society for Army Historical Research,
of the Arms and Armour Society of Great Britain, of the Military History
Society of Ireland, of La Sabretache: la Société des
collectionneurs de figurines et des amis de l'histoire militaire and of the
Gesellschaft für Historische Waffen- und Kostümkunde e.V.
I am a member of the British Society for Eighteenth Century
Studies, of the Eighteenth Century Ireland Society and of the Walpole Society.
I hold current Readers tickets to all principal
British public archives, reference libraries, national Record Offices and
research sources. |
